Settings page should be single column
We are not moving to a double-column layout on the settings page as we want to keep it as simple and limited as possible.
If we ever feel the need to move to a two-column layout in Settings (because, for example, it takes too long to scroll through it all), we should first evaluate:
- Do we have too many settings and how can we reduce them?
- Are we laying our settings properly so that the most important, most widely-used ones are easiest to access while the less frequently-used/more detailed settings are layered away (e.g., via a tab interface “General” / “Detailed”, etc.)
These are not pain points we have encountered so far and we can debate them when and if we do.
In terms of the design philosophy for Indie Site, we use a single-column layout to keep us from adding undue complexity and to immediately differentiate our design from the cluttered designs of tracking and ad-driven platforms.
This will be reflected in the upcoming design system document for Indie Site, that Hallo.gent and other Indie Site installers in the future will adhere to in order to create a seamless transition from installer to actual application.
