Work out most accessible solution for “read more” link
Repeating the link is bad for accessibility. Also having “READ xy” “READ yz” is apparently irritatingly repetitive for links too.
Some of the considerations I’m mulling on:
- don’t want duplicate links for both the heading and readmore, as it’s redundant (and can be annoying to screenreaders)
- readmore links are useful because they explain that any summary content is just that, and that following the readmore goes to a fuller article
- “Read more” text is a repetitive no-no, but repeating “Read ‘title text’.” is also repetitive for sighted users, and the repeated use of “Read…” also can be annoying to screenreaders
- underlined headings can be very visually noisy if the text is large, but underlines are necessary if the headings are the only part of the list that are linked
- linking all of the content in the list item (summary, date etc) in one big block link could be tricky for scrolling on touch screen devices/triggering accidental clicks
